GPSC Statement on the Supreme Court Overturning Roe v. Wade
To the UArizona graduate and professional student community:
Since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24th, it has been a tumultuous time for many Arizonans. As your representatives in GPSC, we stand in solidarity with those navigating the turbulent politicized landscape of reproductive healthcare. We know that the legal situation continues to change by the day and uncertainty abounds, so we are committed to providing you with strong community resources that are up to date on the latest Arizona abortion laws. We also wanted to share a statement from The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education and from our university union, United Campus Workers of Arizona, in solidarity with their work and organizing on this important issue. Please see below for financial resources for travel and reproductive healthcare.
For accessing abortion funds, please see the Abortion Fund of Arizona (financial and logistical support) and the Tucson Abortion Support Collective. For other healthcare needs, including contraception and Plan B, please apply to GPSC’s Basic Needs Microgrants (beginning Fall 2022). For free condoms, please stop at Campus Health for “Free Condom Friday.” The WGRC and the LGBTQ+ Resource Center also offer free sexual wellness items and pregnancy tests.
Lastly, we stand by allies on campus who have been fighting for student reproductive rights, like the Women and Gender Resource Center.
Yours in solidarity,
The Graduate and Professional Student Council
